Telephone Counselor – Masters Degree in Counseling Required

COVID-19 Hiring Note: EFR is currently delivering services in a hybrid manner (in person & virtual). Interviewing will occur virtually –some onboarding training may be done in person. EFR anticipates the Telephone Counselor to be staffed in a hybrid manner (the majority from home/remote) with the in person work days being located in Des Moines. EFR employees working in our offices are welcome to wear masks, but they are no longer required.

The Telephone Counselor will be the first point of contact for Employee & Family Resources EAP (Employee Assistance Program).  This critical telephone based role will work to deliver high quality, customer centric clinical, work/life, and consulting services to eligible customers; serving both employee/employer and student/administration needs to provide positive outcomes to workplace and school performance. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Telephonic Counseling Center Services: Provide telephone assistance, consultation and resource services to employers, employees and their families. (60%)

  • Comply with EFR standards, processes and procedures.
  • Maintain timely, appropriate and accurate data integrity by completing intakes, authorization of services and case documentation in all electronic and hard files.
  • Provide timely follow-up and collect quality assurance and outcome information

Management Referrals and Student Administrative Referrals:  Consult with employer, school personnel and/or referral resources to provide case management services; complying with EFR standards and protocol related to follow-up and consultation.  Provide effective consultation and collaboration with providers. (15%)

Critical Incident Response:  Provide appropriate consultation on CISD requests and coordinate services as appropriate.  Provide quality and effective debriefing services. (10%)

Customer Service: Provide prompt and professional services to internal and external customers at all times.  Be a positive contributor to the WPS Team.   (10%)

Other:   (5%)

  • Compliance with all applicable EFR policies and procedures including privacy and security

  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor or other administrative personnel

  • Serve as a role model by representing the values of Employee & Family Resources

  • Continuous development of cultural competence

  • Provide On-Call services as scheduled in the team rotation

Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in behavioral sciences – counseling field.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years clinical experience in human services or behavioral sciences field working with children and families.

Credentials: Licensed or license-eligible.

Skills:

  • Ability to learn new technology and demonstrate competency with Microsoft Office

Mental Health Counselor (Master’s Degree Required, Licensed or license-eligible)

EFR anticipates the Counselor role to be staffed in a hybrid manner (in person & work from home) with the in person work days being located in EFR Des Moines or West Des Moines locations. EFR employees working in person are required to wear a mask.

EFR has an opening for top notch clinical who will impact the wellbeing of persons through client centered individual, couple, and family assessment, brief counseling, and referral for adults and youth seeking services through EFR’s Employee and Student Assistance Programs and to provide appropriate mental health assessment and treatment through EFR’s Integrated Counseling program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

In-Person Services:

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Provide in-person assessment, referral and brief counseling to children, adults, couples, and families.
  • Student Assistance Program (SAP) Provide individual and group counseling for elementary through secondary aged children for partnering school districts.
  • E/SAP engagement may include onsite service delivery
    • Comply with EFR standards related to quality, effective and ethical clinical practice and appropriate clinical case documentation.
    • Complete case data timely, appropriately and accurately related to file documentation in electronic and hard files.
    • Provide telephonic and onsite consultation to school administrators and personnel.
    • Collect quality assurance and outcome information.
    • Provision of onsite crisis response services as directed by supervisor
  • Integrated Counseling and Recovery Services Provide a thorough biopsychosocial assessment followed by ongoing integrated mental health and substance use disorder treatment, development and follow through of client-centered treatment plan and/or referral with length of treatment by client progress toward self-determined treatment goals
  • Identify referral services and assist with facilitating the referral process, as appropriate.
  • Provide timely telephonic clinical follow up where as appropriate
  • Assist in the collection of post-service outcome and quality assurance data
  • Complete necessary case file documentation in a timely and professional manner and in accordance to accreditation requirements for CARF and licensing standards in the state of Iowa

Case management of employer management referrals and student formal referrals for E/SAP:

  • Provide in-person assessment, brief counseling, and referral to children, adults, couples, and families as previously outlined for EAP/SAP

  • Provide timely verification to the identified employer and/or school regarding client attendance and referral recommendations, where appropriate and authorized by the client

  • Provide case consultation with employer, school personnel, and/or referral providers where appropriate and authorized by the client

Supervision and Training:

  • Attend individual and group supervision consistently as scheduled

  • Attend in-service professional development trainings as requested by your supervisor

Other:

  • Compliance with all applicable EFR policies and procedures including HIPAA, privacy and security

  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor or other administrative personnel

  • Customer Service: Provide prompt and professional services to internal and external customers at all times.  Be a positive contributor to the Counseling Team

  • Demonstrate the core values of Employee & Family Resources in all internal and external communications

    Continuous development of cultural competence

Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in a behavioral sciences or social work field

Experience:

Prevention Specialist

Hiring Note: EFR continues to deliver services in a hybrid manner (in-person & virtual). Interviewing will occur virtually –onboarding training will be in person. The Prevention Specialist role will be staffed in a hybrid manner (in-person & work from home) with the in-person workdays being located in downtown Des Moines. EFR employees working in person may be asked to wear a mask.

EFR seeks a Prevention Specialist who will implement substance abuse prevention programming in a professional and positive manner in one or more of the following Iowa counties Polk, Jasper, Marion, and Warren. This direct service role requires public speaking proficiency; candidates will do a short presentation during the interview process.

Purpose: To implement substance abuse prevention programming in a professional and positive manner in one or more of the following counties Jasper, Marion, Polk, and Warren.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for delivering up to 50% direct service hours utilizing the current Prevention Work plans: (25%)
  • Strategically balancing prevention efforts using assigned time allocations, the stage of SPF Framework that our grant is focused on and meeting other grant outcomes. (25%)
  • Responsible for accurately tracking and reporting data and outcomes for funders by completing time reports to meet deadlines. (20%)
  • Serve as a community resource by providing prompt and professional services to both internal and external customers at all times. Contributes to a positive and productive prevention team atmosphere. (15%)
  • Responsible for increasing prevention knowledge by attending substance abuse prevention conferences, on-line training courses and following the requirements to become certified by 18 months of employment with the EFR Prevention team. (10%)

Other (5%):

  • Compliance with all applicable EFR policies and procedures including privacy and security

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, human services, or related field from an accredited college or university, or related work experience. Teaching, public health, or prevention certification desirable

Counseling Intern (Spring 2023 / Fall 2023)

EFR’s counseling intern will be a valued member of EFR’s counseling team in order to gain clinical experience required for graduate programming, which includes: Deliver high quality, customer centric clinical consulting services to eligible clients; serving both employee/employer and student/administration needs to provide positive outcomes to workplace and school performance.  Internship opportunities may also include facilitation of mental health presentations, group work, curriculum development, and policy exploration.

Many intern placements at EFR include onsite SAP counseling at school buildings where there is not a supervisor present at all times.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

In-Person Services:

  • Employee/Student Assistance Program (EAP/SAP): Provide in-person assessment, referral and brief counseling to children, adults, couples, and families.
  • Student Assistance Program (SAP): Provide individual and group counseling for elementary through secondary aged children for partnering school districts. At least two days per week of onsite (partner schools) counseling.

Maddox

Student Assistance Program (SAP) & Outpatient Counseling

Maddox*, an elementary-aged student, struggled with anger outbursts, physical aggression, and difficulties with problem-solving. After spending years off-and-on in therapy seeking treatment with various providers only to remark that “none seemed to want to listen,” Maddox’s parents sought SAP services through their district. 

Today, Maddox is completing his SAP sessions and moving towards outpatient counseling. He has reduced his anger outbursts and has learned skills to help him successfully navigate challenging days.
