WPS Telephone Counselor
Hiring Salary Range: $42,200 to $54,000
Telephone Counselor – Masters Degree in Counseling Required
Hiring Note: EFR is currently delivering services in a hybrid manner (in person & virtual). Interviewing will occur virtually. Training/onboarding will be done in person. The Telephone Counselor to be staffed in a hybrid manner with 2 required in person work days (Tuesday & Wednesday) located in EFR’s downtown Des Moines location. EFR employees working in our offices are welcome to wear masks, but they are no longer required unless a client or colleague makes that request.
The Telephone Counselor will be the first point of contact for Employee & Family Resources EAP (Employee Assistance Program). This critical telephone based role will work to deliver high quality, customer centric clinical, work/life, and consulting services to eligible customers; serving both employee/employer and student/administration needs to provide positive outcomes to workplace and school performance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Telephonic Counseling Center Services: Provide telephone assistance, consultation and resource services to employers, employees and their families. (70%)
- Maintain timely, appropriate and accurate data integrity by completing intakes, authorization of services and case documentation in all electronic and hard files.
- Provide timely follow-up for outlying referrals
- Provide in the moment support for crisis calls as applicable
- Provide prompts and professional services to external customers at all times.
- Management Referrals and Student Administrative Referrals: Consult with employer, school personnel and/or referral resources to provide case management services; complying with EFR standards and protocol related to follow-up and consultation. Provide effective consultation and collaboration with providers. (15%)
- Critical Incident Response(CISD): Provide appropriate consultation on CISD requests and coordinate services as appropriate. Provide quality and effective debriefing services. (10%)
Other: (5%)
- Compliance with all applicable EFR policies and procedures including privacy and security
- Perform other duties as requested by supervisor or other administrative personnel
- Serve as a role model by representing the values of Employee & Family Resources

Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree in a behavioral sciences field.

Counseling Intern (Fall 2025/ Spring 2026)
EFR’s counseling intern will be a valued member of EFR’s counseling team in order to gain clinical experience required for graduate programming, which includes: Deliver high quality, customer centric clinical consulting services to eligible clients; serving both employee/employer and student/administration needs to provide positive outcomes to workplace and school performance. Internship opportunities may also include facilitation of mental health presentations, group work, curriculum development, and policy exploration.
Many intern placements at EFR include onsite SAP counseling at school buildings where there is not a supervisor present at all times.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
In-Person Services:
- Employee/Student Assistance Program (EAP/SAP): Provide in-person assessment, referral and brief counseling to children, adults, couples, and families.
- Student Assistance Program (SAP): Provide individual and group counseling for elementary through secondary aged children for partnering school districts. At least two days per week of onsite (partner schools) counseling.
- Comply with EFR standards related to quality, effective and ethical clinical practice and appropriate clinical case documentation.
- Complete case data timely, appropriately and accurately related to file documentation in electronic and hard files. Collect quality assurance and outcome information.
Other:
- Compliance with all applicable EFR policies and procedures including HIPAA, privacy and security
- Perform other duties as requested by supervisor or other administrative personnel
- Customer Service: Provide prompt and professional services to internal and external customers at all times. Be a positive contributor to the WPS Team

Account Manager
Hiring Salary Range: $56,000 to $70,000
EFR has a full time need on our vital Account Management team! If you have experience in account management in the employee benefits and/or insurance industry and have strong relationship building and organizational skills with the desire to help others we would love to talk to you!
The Account Manager impacts WPS revenue through 1) the retention of EAP accounts through effective account management and the delivery of other EAP services; and 2) cross selling of WPS’s Workplace Performance Solutions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Deliver quality customer relationship management by proactively engaging with all accounts on a regular basis (60%)
• Promotes EFR products and utilization of services.
• Facilitates the implementation of the benefit and conducts orientations.
• Gains an in-depth knowledge of customer business.
• Attends company events and health fairs.
• Completes renewal process including strategy for promotion and communication.
• Responds to all services issues from a strong EAP knowledge base. - Cross sales of Workplace Performance Solutions Offerings (20%)
• Demonstrates knowledge of products/services.
• Provides information about EAP services, wellness programs, and other services that might benefit an organization to upsell on additional services. - Record keeping (15%)
• Provides timely and accurate documentation of account activity in electronic customer record.
• Runs and analyzes customer utilization reports.
• Works collaboratively with EAP colleagues to complete and upload all account documentation.
• Timely completion and submission of all documentation required to meet EFR business needs.
• Comprehensive database management. Updates and maintains internal databases providing timely and accurate client communication and activity tracking.
• Compiles data needed to provide customer utilization reports. - Compliance with EFR standards (5%)
• Performance of duties as assigned by supervisor and other EFR administrative staff
• Provision of prompt and professional services to EFR colleagues at all times
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor degree in Business, communications or related field.
Experience

- Experience working in the employee benefits and/or insurance industry preferred.

Prevention Specialist
Hiring Salary: $40,000
Multiple positions are available.
EFR seeks a Prevention Specialist who will implement substance abuse prevention programming in a professional and positive manner in one or more of the following Iowa counties Polk, Jasper, Marion, and Warren. This direct service role requires public speaking proficiency; candidates will do a short presentation during the interview process.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for delivering up to 50% direct service hours utilizing the current Prevention Work plans. (25%)
- Strategically balancing prevention efforts using assigned time allocations, the stage of SPF Framework that our grant is focused on and meeting other grant outcomes. (25%)
- Responsible for accurately tracking and reporting data and outcomes for funders by completing time reports to meet deadlines. (20%)
- Serve as a community resource by providing prompt and professional services to both internal and external customers at all times. Contributes to a positive and productive prevention team atmosphere. (15%)
- Responsible for increasing prevention knowledge by attending substance abuse and/or problem gambling prevention conferences, on-line training courses and following the requirements to become certified by 18 months of employment with the EFR Prevention team. (10%)
